The Blue Creek Stream Mitigation Bank weaves throughout Meriwether Park, and is an integral part of the master plan for the Blue Creek Basin, which was one of the largest watershed rehabilitation and protection efforts at the time in the State of Georgia. Under a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers, the Blue Creek Mitigation Bank restored and preserved the major headwater tributary system of the middle Chattahoochee watershed, ensuring that the watershed will provide biologically diverse aquatic and terrestrial habitats in an ever-increasing urban environment. The Blue Creek Stream Mitigation Bank provided at the time for the restoration, enhancement and preservation of approximately 350 riparian buffer acres, 36.62 wetland acres and approximately 46,662 linear feet of stream channels. This restoration project protects 84% of the Blue Creek watershed that flows into the Blue Creek Reservoir, which provides a part of the drinking water for the City of Hogansville, Ga.
